AUDITION INFORMATION

Reminders:

  • Audition Window: 2/16/2026 - 2/27/2026

  • There is no separate nomination deadline. You can nominate students at the same time you enter their audition.

  • If your student auditioned for the Concert Band festival in the fall, please attach their jazz audition to the existing student. Do not create a new student if they auditioned in the fall.

  • You do not need to pay a separate school participation fee. 

  • Order of audition: State Etude, Improvisation if applicable
    Students will not be penalized for incorrect order, but it does speed up the juding process.

  • Please check to make sure your students' audition videos meet the guidelines and are listed as "Unlisted" on YouTube.

Audition Material:

  • Audition Material (etudes and etude backing tracks can be found on spreadsheet)

  • Winds: ILMEA Jr. Jazz Cycle 2 Etude and Tenor Madness (Bb Blues) Improvisation
    Rhythm Section: ILMEA Jr. Jazz Cycle 2 Etude, no Improvisation

  • Tenor Madness Lead Sheet and Backing Track
    Students play the head/written melody of Tenor Madness. They then improvise for one chorus/ one time through the form(12-Bar Bb Blues), and then they play the head. 

    **Depending on your district's settings, students may not be able to access these links. You will either need to download them and share, or make a copy of the file that you own in your drive and then share with your students**
