In an effort to continually align auditions statewide at the junior and senior levels, the Board of Directors voted at their Summer 2024 meeting to implement a cycle of commissioned etudes for Strings, Winds, Percussion and Instrumental Jazz at the Junior and Senior levels.

Instrumental Jazz etudes will be implemented in the Fall of 2024; Strings, Winds and Percussion etudes will be implemented in the Fall of 2025.

Junior Orchestra Auditions

1. Prepared Selection 1

Two excerpts to be taken from one piece of the Junior Orchestra festival repertoire and will be announced 2 weeks before auditions.

Violin students must prepare all 1st and 2nd violin excerpts.

2. Prepared Selection 2

Excerpt to be taken from Junior Orchestra festival repertoire and will be posted on the day of auditions at the site.

Violin students must prepare all 1st and 2nd violin excerpts.

3. Scales

Violins: G Major (3 octaves); Bb, C, D and A Major (2 octaves); and g melodic minor (2 octaves)

Viola/Cello: C Major (3 octaves); F, G, D and A Major (2 octaves); and c melodic minor (2 octaves)

Bass: G Major (2 octaves); F, C, D and A Major (1 octave); and g melodic minor (1 octave)

Three scales will be sent out 2 weeks before the audition date along with the announcement of excerpts/repertoire for the Junior Orchestra Audition Prepared Selections.

District 6 Senior Orchestra Students will also prepare an additional required selections taken from the current year's festival music.

The two audition excerpts, the state required excerpt and 3 scales to be used will be posted the day of auditions.
