In an effort to continually align auditions statewide at the junior and senior levels, the Board of Directors voted at their Summer 2024 meeting to implement a cycle of commissioned etudes for Strings, Winds, Percussion and Instrumental Jazz at the Junior and Senior levels.

Instrumental Jazz etudes will be implemented in the Fall of 2024; Strings, Winds and Percussion etudes will be implemented in the Fall of 2025.

*Districts 2 and 8 share an orchestra and alternate host years; the 2024 junior and senior orchestras will be hosted by District 8*

Junior Orchestra Auditions

2. Scales

  • Violins: G, Bb, C, D Major (2 octaves) and F Major (1 octave)

  • Viola/Cello: C, D, F, G Major (2 octaves) and Bb Major (1 octave)

  • Double Bass: F Major (2 Octaves) and G, Bb, C, D Major (1 octave)

    There is no tempo requirement for scales. There is no scale requirement for harps.

Prepared Selection - 50 points:

  • Tone: 10 points

  • Intonation: 10 points

  • Technique: 10 points

  • Rhythm: 10 points

  • Musicianship: 10 points

Scale Skills - 10 points
